"I will fill the world with love and create heaven on earth
Heaven
will descend on earth with peace in every home of our world family." ~
Maharishi
Living
in the hope of spending the afterlife in heaven is a definite waste of the glorious
gift of human life. So every individual must try to create a heavenly environment
on earth, and one Hindu spiritual leader thinks it's very much possible to build
heaven on earth!
He is Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi the notable Vedic teacher and celebrated guru of transcendental
meditation, and the vital force behind such Vedic institutions as the Maharishi
University of Management and the Maharishi International University.
Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi
It is said about Maharishi that over
forty years ago, he came out of isolation in the Himalayas "to relieve
the world from suffering". Having acquired the long-lost Vedic knowledge
from his guru, he set out to revive the practical, ancient science that is capable
of creating perfect health and enlightenment for all individual and society
to enjoy celestial happiness and peace on earth. Accordingly, he has enlivened
the timeless procedures of Vedic living, developed the necessary programs, tested
their validity, published the results and invited every government and every
family to adopt this knowledge. One of the many results of this endeavor is
the newly founded Vedic City in the United States.
World's
First Vedic City!
Vedic City, Iowa became the first city in the world to be built according to
principles of ancient Vedic architectural design, aimed at creating greater
health, happiness, and prosperity for its residents.
On
July 25, 2001, the US Secretary of State - amidst pujas by a Hindu priest and
a foundation-stone laying ceremony officially incorporated the Vedic
City as Iowa's 950th city and first new township since 1982. In mid-January,
2001, a special committee of the Iowa City Development Board approved a petition
to incorporate a substantial portion of the Maharishi Center for Perfect Health
and World Peace, located north of Fairfield, as Vedic City. The approval for
incorporation came almost a decade after the inauguration of the Maharishi Center.
The incorporation will help the new city to create necessary infrastructure
and provide services such as police protection and fire brigade.
Based
entirely on the ancient principles of Maharishi
Sthapatya Veda design and other aspects of Maharishi Vedic Science, Vedic
City has more than 40 buildings, including The
Raj, a popular health spa and clinic, three resort hotels, business centers,
condominiums, chalets, villas, and homes. Developers have already spent more
than $30 million on this 654-acre land, which currently has a population of
around 150 residents, who are followers of transcendental meditation, founded
by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
