Going on a pilgrimage is considered not only auspicious (for it is believed to cleanse one's sins) but it can also be reinvigorating to the mind. It lets us purge the monotony generated by our humdrum existence so we can begin life afresh.

Here's How:
- Choose an auspicious date for the journey.
- Prepare yourself for a religious mood by observing fast and self-control on the previous day.
- In the morning of the day of departure, complete ablutions and bathe properly.
- Then worship Lord Ganesha (God of good fortune), the nine planets and the family deity so that they may favour you with the steadfastness of religious resolve.
- While journeying, abstain from temptations of every kind, and stick to a vegetarian diet.
- On arriving at the shrine, worship the deity and perform religious rites.
- Think of God alone and overlook the hardships that might come your way.
- Make allowances for fellow pilgrims as well as for the lack of amenities at the holy site.
- Give away alms, money or gifts at the pilgrimage according to the local custom.
- After returning thank the family deity and Ganesha for their blessings.
Tips:
- Travel light for a pilgrimage. Never carry any valuables that might distract you from thinking of God.
- Relax completely and forget about your affairs at home or office.
- Select a secluded spot and meditate or introspect and prepare yourself anew for life's battle.
