The birthday of Hinduism's favorite deity - Lord Krishna is a special occasion for Hindus. The great exponent of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna is the ninth and the most powerful incarnation of Vishnu, the Godhead of the Hindu Trinity of deities.

Krishna took birth at midnight on the ashtami or the 8th day of the Krishnapaksha or dark fortnight in the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September).

This auspicious day is called Janmashtami, which falls on Wednesday,August 28, 2013. Song, dance and merriment mark the celebration of this festive occasion all over India. Read about the story of Krishna's birth, and how to observe his birthday. Read Full Article...

Hello! I’m originally from Bangladesh. I have a dilema about the dates of ‘Ponjika’. It’s hard for us to observ the festivals at the right time. For ex. I use to fast every ‘Jonmastomi’ but this year I was not sure when it would be. I came to know last night and it’s not easy to plan. In bangladesh it’s today but in India it’s tomorrow. How shall I react?

@Narendra, Just think which way the sun rise and the geographic locations of both the countries. The question is the timing, mostly timings are nearer for both the countries but we just defer the days, which is kinda silly, but think like that, the India is quite big to have a small timeline, right??

Anyway, Happy Krishna Janmashtami to you all.

Let Lord Krishna bless us all, no matter who we are.

God is One. Divided gods have been the reason for India’s division. Let Lord Krishna who represent the Supreme God bless us all to be united under One God with whatever name one chooses to call Him.

(13) M.J. SUBRAMANYAM says:

Indian should observe “Astami” as per Indian calender and the rising of the Sun and the Moon. Likewise Bangladesh people if they want to observe ‘Janmastami’ should observe as per their calender. Suppose it is 3 pm in India it is 10 am inn England. Just because in India the cricket match starts at 10 am, England cannot start at 5am which is equivalent to 10 am in India. They will ignore the timings of India and follow their timings. It is the same for all countries. Sometimes eclipses are not seen in India. Those who observe rituals need not bother about eclipses as it is not seen India.

I hope this will clarify Narendra’s doubt.

Happy Janmashtami
I wish all Lord Krishna devotees a very happy janmashatmi. This is a festival of fun and frolic which also teaches us that we should believe in god and should always fight against the wrong. In our town, we celebrate it by decorating lord krishna’s temple in our houses as well the town’s main temple.
Once Again, Wish You All A Very Happy Janmashtami.
Hare Krishna!!
