The birthday of Hinduism's favorite deity - Lord Krishna is a special occasion for Hindus. The great exponent of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna is the ninth and the most powerful incarnation of Vishnu, the Godhead of the Hindu Trinity of deities.

Krishna took birth at midnight on the ashtami or the 8th day of the Krishnapaksha or dark fortnight in the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September).
This auspicious day is called Janmashtami, which falls on Monday, August 22, 2011. Song, dance and merriment mark the celebration of this festive occasion all over India. Read about the story of Krishna's birth, and how to observe his birthday.

Hello! I’m originally from Bangladesh. I have a dilema about the dates of ‘Ponjika’. It’s hard for us to observ the festivals at the right time. For ex. I use to fast every ‘Jonmastomi’ but this year I was not sure when it would be. I came to know last night and it’s not easy to plan. In bangladesh it’s today but in India it’s tomorrow. How shall I react?
@Narendra, Just think which way the sun rise and the geographic locations of both the countries. The question is the timing, mostly timings are nearer for both the countries but we just defer the days, which is kinda silly, but think like that, the India is quite big to have a small timeline, right??
Anyway, Happy Krishna Janmashtami to you all.
Let Lord Krishna bless us all, no matter who we are.
@ Biswajit, I know but still it’s odd!! OM TAT SAT.
its ok good
Janamashtami is a festival which reminds us the supremacy of god. Man can not work against god’s will. May lord krishna bless you all

God is One. Divided gods have been the reason for India’s division. Let Lord Krishna who represent the Supreme God bless us all to be united under One God with whatever name one chooses to call Him.
hare ram hare ram
ram ram hare hare|
hare krishna hare krishna
krishna krishna hare hare.
Happy Krishna Janmashtami
