Skanda Sashti is observed on the sixth day of the bright fortnight of the Tamil month of Aippasi (November 4, 2008). It is an important festival of South India and is observed to commemorate the destruction of evil by Lord Subramanya, who on this day, is believed to have annihilated the mythical demon Taraka.
