The Love Guru: Nothing To Laugh At!
Monday June 23, 2008
Mike Myers’ mocking comedy 'The Love Guru' opened on June 20 amidst protests that the film is offensive to Hinduism. It is vulgar but not Hinduphobic, said a Hindu group. But how does it make you feel when the world’s oldest religion is mocked at in such a manner? Sure, no one takes such comedies seriously, but as Hindus, we are not amused! Such ridiculous caricatures of Hindus and Indians can mislead many into believing that Hinduism is just fun and game. This comedy has nothing to laugh at. But don't take it too seriously! It ain’t cool!

i strongly condemn this film ,both the name and the character in the film, which makes fun with Hinduism .Hinduism is the only Dharma that can teach u the values for the physical and eternal life.I don’nt know whether the producer know the meaning of Guru or not,But it has great meaning. So please change the name of the movie and in future do’nt make the hindus making movies like this.
I honestly do not see the harm in the movie and personally EVERY religion, sex, race, and thing get’s turned into a comedy. That’s life. Yes, it is wrong to poke fingers at Hinduism but remember EVERYTHING get’s made fun of once in a while. It’s just a comedy movie. So relax no one is going to think that’s what Hinduisim is all about. It’s just a movie mad to get a few laugh’s. Yes, it was wrong to call it the “Love Guru” but it’s already said and done. It’s a comedy movie that had no intentions to offend anyone.
It looks like everybody can do anything about Hinduism. Will the dare enough to touch other religions like Islam, christianity. So as a man I will not bother this. But since the same we can not do it to the other religion we have to protest.
Your writing skills are very good. Keep it up
Regards
It is sad when people take joy in making fun, mocking and committing heinous atrocities other religions but get offended when it is done back at them. It is just a film and a funny one at that. There is no harm done. A joke is a joke and nothing more. We need to learn to laugh about it and not frown. And when we laugh at others, we must expect to be laughed at ourselves.
How about a film titled: “Playboy Christ” or “Sexy Muhammad” ?
Will it be fun???? Not at all…One should respect other faiths and keep our opinions to ourselves…We all know how vulgar can Mike Myers get..I appreciated his acting before..but now I feel he has lost it..Shame on you ..I hate myself for admiring you once..
Pathetic!

THE LOVE GURU
Rated PG-13.
Mike Myers, Jessica Alba
SAVE YOUR MONEY ! ! ! This movie is a flop.
Myers makes a fool of himself playing a Caucasian guru (Pitka) who is an obvious cheap shot at “real” gurus. Indian holy men are making a killing on marketing their books and lectures to the “starving for it” multitudes in America. So they have a big following — now it’s time to make fun of them for it? Abercrombie and Fitch has a big following too. Nobody makes fun of them. They charge a fortune for clothes marked extra large that barely fit a starving 14-year-old. Why not make a movie about that? Maybe fostering anorexia can be funny.
The whole thing seems like a badly-done Saturday Night Live skit — but Lorne Michaels would not be proud. This movie isn’t good enough to be on SNL. The script is trash. It is riddled with low-brow, tacky jokes and vulgarisms. The only things cute about it are two well-done songs and the occasional smirk made by Myers in accompaniment to one of his inane comments. Throw in Jessica Alba’s febrile campaign to bleach the Mexican hair-shaft. What colour is that? Let’s call it myuck.
The rest of the movie is a smear on Hindu India and their gurus’ success in a capitalist society. I suppose because Myers plays a white guy they figure they can get away with it. This film was an embarrassment to watch.
I think that you are going overboard about this. Like you said yourself, “Sure no one takes this seriously..”. Exactly, no one is suppose to take it seriously so why are you? Christians didn’t feel mocked when Bruce Almighty(a man was given God’s powers) came out and that movie came out with a sequal. So like I said, just calm down. It’s a comedy for all to enjoy and was never ment to offend anyone or religion.
The followers of the Holy Sanatan Dharma (named Hindu Riligion by the Westerners) do not watch Movies. They see the whole creation of Shree Ram as a Movie — only Westerners , who have no understanding of Dharma whatsoever could create Hollywood and Bollywod to seek happiness, but they are always unhappy al of them 100% of time. That is why they create conflicts, bomb intimdate every one and kill billions of animals forr their food every day. Sanatan Dharma is to see the show and know that all this is only Mayaand realize only ignorant fool.seek enjoyment in that manner–and remain intimidated by Adharmics –Non Dharma persons –to make them also happy.
As a Westerner I know darn well they’d never make a comedy about Mohammed or Jesus. It’s just because Hindus are so tolerant they think they can take liberties with them. I’m glad this movie is tanking!!
Having a pure mind and a divine soul, what can offend me? A film? Just have compession, if someone is making fun out of religion, he doesn’t know it better, but don t get offended, nor angry. Hinduism is thousands of years alive, it is not touchable by any film or joke. The true believer can’t be offended.
Why do you people think he was mocking Hinduism?? Mike is TEACHING IT…… He has to “appeal to the masses” with his crude and disgusting humor. But if you really understand the meaning of the movie you will realize he is TEACHING people how to look inward. and by people i mean “the masses” that have no idea what meditation or higher conscienceless is.
I cant believe no one sees what he is doing here.
