Vasanta Navaratri: The Divine Nights of Spring

Friday March 16, 2007
Navaratri ("nava" + "ratri") literally means "nine nights." It is observed twice a year, in spring and autumn. "Vasanta Navaratri" or Spring Navaratri (March 19-28, 2007) is nine days of fast and worship that Hindus undertake during spring every year. Swami Sivananda retells the legend behind this springtime ritual during which the devout seeks the blessings of the Mother Goddess or Devi.
