Yoga Do's & Don'ts

Monday February 5, 2007
• Yoga Style: Try out a few styles for a few weeks before zeroing in on one.
• Yoga Teacher: Check your trainer's credentials. S/he must know the human body well and should be well-trained to be effective.
• Yoga Wear: Choose loose, comfortable clothing while you practise yoga. No tight-fitting outfits, shoes or socks. Get your own Yoga mat.
• Food & Water: Don't do yoga on a full stomach or drink water during a session. Wait for 15 minutes before taking water and an hour before you eat anything.
• Medical Condition: Inform your trainer about your current state of health. S/he needs to decide if you should avoid any particular asanas.
• Competition: Unlike other fitness formats, yoga is not about competing with others.
