Pilgrimages Continue Despite Islamic Terror Attacks
Wednesday July 23, 2003
Seven devotees were killed and 48 injured, in two nightly explosions set off on July 21 by Muslim militants near Katra, on way to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Kashmir. Last year, Islamic separatists killed eight pilgrims and injured many more during the pilgrimage. Every year, thousands of Hindu devotees visit the abode of goddess Vaishno Devi, 60 km northeast of the city of Jammu. Meanwhile, security has been tightened along the annual Amarnath Yatra route, which also is in full swing. Despite all the terror, the enthusiasm of the pilgrims for the yatra is far from dampened, reports the Hindustan Times.
