Sotheby's Sells Stolen Indian Antiques?
Saturday July 12, 2003
The antique trade world was shaken up at the recent arrest of an Indian smuggler
that is likely to lead to an investigation of the British auction house Sotheby's.
Operation Blackhole carried out by Indian police has identified some
icons listed in Sotheby's catalogues as having been stolen from a temple in
Udaipur in the 1960s, says the Hindustan
Times. Read full report and discuss it here.
Before that, you may check out some Ganesha
statues, Nataraja
sculptures and Krishna
idols on this site.
